Beechwood - Wet storage

Felling of trees is not allowed during the growth period in the summer. In order to produce timber throughout the whole year, large wet storage facilities provide for an ample supply of logs.

Capacity of the factory-owned wet storage facilities is at 200.000 cbm corresponding to roughly 2/5 of the yearly log volume of Pollmeier sawmills.

Factories

Pollmeier is currently operating in 3 locations the largest hardwood sawmills in Europe: standardized and fully automatic mass production according to the highest quality standards. Shown here are the factory buildings, part of the 35 ha large premises ot the headquarters in Creuzburg.

Grading

Based on the strict grading rules of the American NHLA, the boards are sorted according to their possible applications in 8 different quality grades by specially trained graders.

Cutting to size of lamellas

Pollmeier is offering a specialty - we have moved ahead a couple of work steps, for ex. by pre-sanding the boards. This allows for fast processing with less waste.

A sophisticated glass-wood combination front on a square ground plan based on an energy-concept leads to low running costs.

Sales department

A uniformly styled open office environment with traffic areas close to the walls allows for short distances in the building itself. Colourful panels of fabric on the concrete walls are there to improve insulation and acoustics. Generally speaking a pleasant atmosphere to work in.
