European Black Alder
European Black Alder is a hardwood-species available from sustained forestry and featuring both, outstanding wood characteristics as well as interesting and attractive optics. The name Black Alder originates from colouring leather with black dye made from its bark and from producing black ink from its cones in former times. Alder machines very nicely and is known for its dimensional stability and for not being prone to cracks. It lends itself easily to being varnished and achieves a very high quality of finish. Alder is suited very well for interior applications such as furniture and shopfitting and is a much appreciated wood species for turning, carving and forming by bending.
Alder as a wood species is a niche product, which offers wood processors the possibility to highlight their products with its distinctive appearance and fresh optics and thus open up new market segments.
