The capacity of the plant’s own wet store is about 200,000m3 solid measure of timber, which represents about 2/5 of Pollmeier’s annual turnover of round timber.
Pollmeier currently runs the largest hardwood sawmills in Europe at three sites, offering standardised and fully automated mass production at the highest level of quality. Shown here are the sawmills at the approx. 35ha company site in Creuzburg.
According to the strict American NHLA criteria, the timber is sorted on a requirement orientated basis into 13 different quality grades by specially trained personnel known as "Graders".
Pollmeier offers that little bit extra – by going a few processing steps further (e.g. rough grinding). This allows the subsequent processing to be speeded up while producing less waste.
Deep insight: the rough grinding process brings to light any hidden defects in the wood, allowing them to be taken into consideration before it’s "too late".
Pre-sorting into defined lengths and steaming until a uniformity of colour to a pre-defined hue is attained ensure that the timber looks good even in the store.
The uniformly styled open-plan offices with thoroughfares routed next to the façades guarantee short routes within the actual building. Coloured fabric panels on the bare concrete surfaces improve the insulation and the acoustics – all in all a pleasant atmosphere.
Fixed widths are a permanent fixture of the Pollmeier product range – final dimensions can be selected as desired by the user for production optimisation and minimisation of waste.
