| In Germany sustained utilization of
the forests has been the standard for over 200 years. At that time
sustained
meant that timber was cut only to the extent it could grow back.
This was intended to guarantee that sufficient quantities of wood,
as a raw material, were available for subsequent generations.
However in forestry today this basic idea of sustenance
has been expanded, placing major priority on protection of nature
and the environment in addition to pure timber production. Forests
have gained increasingly in significance as popular destinations
for outings and areas for recreation.
Due to these highly differing interests it is necessary for forestry
to consider the requirements of logging, environmental protection
and recreation.
Pollmeier timber purchasing.
To ensure availability according to plan, we conclude preliminary
contracts with our suppliers, define the types of timber and agree
on prices and delivery dates. We offer new suppliers the opportunity
of inspecting the forests together with us before conclusion of
the contract.
The timber is taken over in the forest, where each log is evaluated
separately.
Then Pollmeier immediately issues a credit for the timber purchased.
Rapid transfer of the timber to our facilities is given maximum
priority to ensure processing the beech wood without losses in quality
and preserve it professionally in wet storage facilities as quickly
as possible.
Pollmeier has specialized in processing beech timber with medium
(quality class C) to low quality.
This allows our suppliers great freedom in exploitation of the
forests.
Because today we lay the foundation for guaranteeing healthy beech
forests and high quality timber for future generations.
