  • Solid wood panels made from beechwood and redheart beechwood by Pollmeier

Pollmeier Leimholz GmbH is a producer of edge-glued panels for the German and European furniture industry and was established in 1987 in Rietberg, eastern part of North Rhine-Westphalia. Located right in the middle of the German furniture industry, Pollmeier quickly became a high-performance partner to processors of solid wood and to producers of solid or partially solid furniture. In the beginning, only softwood was processed, but later American Red Alder and American White Oak were added to production. In the meantime, however, Pollmeier Leimholz GmbH is a manufacturer of top products solely made from beechwood.

Running the complete value-added process - from procuring the logs to delivering the finished panels – is setting standards in terms of management and economy. The high standards we demand from procurement, manufacturing and quality control assure our customers that every shipment of edge glued panels will possess the same consistent high quality standard. This consistency has made us a strong and reliable partner to the furniture industry.

    PEFC-certified for your reassurance.

    PEFC - what is that?

PEFC certification is a transparent and independent control system for safeguarding a sustainable and thus exemplary forest cultivation. All forest owners may participate voluntarily. PEFC is also a monitoring system for proof of origin: from certified forests via the wood processing companies to the finished product on the shelf. With a certified forest area of over 200 million hectares, PEFC is the world’s most widespread forestry seal. Since the foundation of PEFC Germany in 1999, over 7 million hectares have been certified – about two-thirds of Germany’s total forest area. The most important standards are: promotion of mixed species forestry in accordance with local conditions; ban on clear-cutting; non-use of herbicides. Independent certifying companies monitor the observance of these requirements at regular intervals.

  • Explanation of terminology used

Buchenholz kann von Ästen bis hin zum Rotkern verschiedenste Merkmale aufweisen. Ein Überblick:

    • Knot: Part of a branch enclosed in the wood.
    • Sound knot: Knot without signs of decay and solid across its surface. The knot is at least as hard as surrounding wood and firmly held in place by growth.
    • Small knot: Knot with a diameter of up to 5 mm.
    • Black knot: Knot which has died due to lack of light.
    Blue stains

Discoloration ranging from gray to blue, mostly appearing as stripes
    in the sapwood, which is caused by fungi after entering of water;
no influence on stability of wood.

    Mineral spots

Depending on location of trees – stains caused by the mineral content of the soil.

    Enclosed bark, bark pockets

Bark which is completely or partially trapped inside the wood,
usually in openings between year rings.

Cellular separation inside a wood piece, usually along the wood grain (longitudinally).

An unnaturally intense discoloration inside a tree with varying shades, intensity and uniformity, which does not diminish the hardness of the wood; appears as a feature in living trees of wood species with an irregular formation of heartwood (e.g. beech).

    Wood or knot patches

A prefabricated piece of wood to repair unwanted wood characteristics.

    Stains from stacking spacers

Greyish discoloration spots, caused by improper use of stacking spacers
    while storing and kiln-drying wood.
