As of 2019, Pollmeier Massivholz GmbH & Co. KG offers spruce laminated veneer lumber (LVL) at its Creuzburg / Thuringia site. So far, only beech laminated veneer lumber marketed as BauBuche has been produced at this plant, which went into operation in 2014.

“Laminated veneer lumber products made from spruce perfectly complement our product range. Spruce laminated veneer lumber is a well-established material used for a large number of non-visible standard components in structural timber construction. By contrast, beech laminated veneer lumber is primarily chosen for visible timber structures and for heavily loaded individual construction elements. This means that spruce laminated veneer lumber is not in competition with our BauBuche products,” explains Managing Director Ralf Pollmeier. “In recent years, we have optimised our veneer lumber production. Now that everything is running smoothly, we plan to switch to three-shift operation in 2019. This will give us sufficient capacity to produce laminated veneer lumber products from beech and spruce, as both product lines have high growth potential,” says Pollmeier.
Pollmeier will soon offer spruce laminated veneer lumber in various strength classes, with exclusively longitudinal as well as with cross plies. The new Pollmeier spruce LVL will be presented to the public for the first time at the Bau in Munich in January 2019 (stand 318 / hall B5).
In 2012, the hardwood specialist Pollmeier began construction of the world’s first hardwood-processing laminated veneer lumber plant, seen by the industry as a bold move and a step into new technological territory. Since the start of production in autumn 2014, the plant machinery has been further optimised and upgraded. The beech laminated veneer lumber from Pollmeier known as BauBuche is still a world novelty and the only construction material industrially manufactured from hardwood. BauBuche has proven its efficiency and performance in numerous reference projects throughout Europe and has become a material of choice in both timber engineering and interior design.
